Zip Ties for Electrical and Test Equipment

by Amy

Zip ties, also known as cable ties, are one of the most useful tools an electrician can have. Easy to use, these simple devices can hold wires or cables in place, add organization to your project, or help you with shipping parts. The products come in a number of different colors and materials to help with any number of situations. A natural tool in any shop, zip ties are a small thing to add that can produce tremendous results.

Why Electricians Love Cable Ties

The biggest reason electricians appreciate zip ties is that they are a very portable tool. Electricians need tools that are easy to use and can be transported without a hassle. Zip ties are small and made from a durable plastic that makes them highly functional.

Zip ties are also great on the job because they are tools that have several uses. One of their biggest uses is with organization of parts or test equipment. The multiple colors can represent different lengths, styles, or power levels so that they can be grabbed in a hurry.

The easy-to-use zip ties are also great for holding down pieces or keeping tools in place during shipping. Because many of the parts involved in electrical work and test equipment are small and long, the zip ties serve as a very strong restraint.

The plastic grip is stronger than a Velcro tie, and it is harder to pull apart. Pressure needs to be placed on the lip of the cable tie in order to release. This helps to reduce the chances the tie will come undone on the job or during shipping.

Buy Zip Ties Online

Many people think that zip ties, other than the standard black pack, can only be found in a specialty store. Electricians looking to organize their extra cables or wires may need multiple lengths or colors to accomplish the task. Buying the tie online will give you access to more colors than most shops will offer. This also makes ordering the ties very easy and worry-free. Simply browse the online store catalog and see what is available that suits your needs.

Tie Wraps: Tools with Strength and Possibilities

by Amy

Tie wraps are high performance tools that can be used in a range of projects. They are accessories in a lot of electrical, industrial and automotive applications. Yet with an impressive versatility, these self locking plastic ties can be used to secure, organize, lock, support, decorate and repair projects that go from crafting to boating. When you buy these quality products, you’re solidifying your confidence in completing a project successfully.

Wraps that can withstand high temperatures are common in cars. It’s not unusual to use tie wraps to hold certain hoses in place. These products are, not surprisingly, used in many electrical and solar panel works. Cable and wire are routinely bundled for easier mainframe connections, to create clean appearances and to make labeling simpler. They are used in solar paneling as on rooftops it could get very hot and poorly constructed cord could melt. Tie wraps are also depended upon in the maintenance of HVAC systems and electrical panels.

While this equipment makes for great solutions in heavy duty, professional projects, they can also add a special touch to smaller, personal projects. An unruly growth of flowers can be arranged, locked into position with tie wraps cinched around the stems. Take care to not tighten the product too much, which can lead to damage. If you’re a car enthusiast and worried about those custom hubcaps, reinforce the bond with ties. You can even choose any number of colors that will easily blend into the car’s décor. An artist in California has begun weaving a collection of baskets out of ties.

The potential is unsurpassed. One trucker uses releasable, heavy duty cable ties to reinforce lashing cargo down on his flatbed. These ties are actually being used as additional securing of storage on many trucks, keeping stock in place during the bumpiest road trip.

As you can see, there are many creative uses for tie wraps. When you order from us, rest assured you are going to get the very best product for the price. We sell cable ties, heat shrink tubing, wiring identification, wire harnesses and more for your electrical, solar, defense, industrial, automotive and DIY projects. We’re in the business of providing top notch, long lasting product to every customer. That’s not going to change any time soon!

The Use of Zip Ties in the Automotive Industry

by Amy

A pack of zip ties can have a million uses in the automotive field. A natural part of any tools kit, these heavy-duty cable ties help to assist in automotive repair by fastening and marking specific parts. Zip ties, also known as cable ties or rat ties, come in a variety of colors and sizes that can assist professionals in a number of ways.

How a Zip Tie Works

Zip ties are a type of fastener that works in a very simple way. The quick and easy design of a basic tie allows them to be grabbed and secured within a matter of seconds. The strip is filled with a row of ridged teeth that help to keep the tie in place as you wrap it around through the lip on the other end. The tie, once threaded to the lip, is simply pulled to secure.

Releasing a zip tie is a fast process as well. Simply hold the lip down to release the teeth. When you hold the lip down, you need to apply pressure in just the right way. This is an added security feature that makes it difficult for these useful tools to come undone when working.

Zip Ties are Automotive Tools

When most people buy zip ties, they do so for electrical purposes. The ties are excellent for holding a wire in place or marking select areas of the home for installation. As an automotive tool, the zip tie not only has a similar purpose, but it also helps with organization.

Good organization of automotive parts makes it easy to find exactly what you need at all times. While a zip tie pack usually contains black ties, other varieties allow you to color code your car parts. This is very useful when shipping cables or other long parts that you don’t want to rattle around in a box.

Several heavy-duty products are on the market that could serve a similar purpose to zip ties. Velcro straps are popular, but are easy to take apart. Wire holders and other plastic products may also promise to be good with automotive or electrical workings, but these generally have a much higher price. A pack of cable ties is one tool that no mechanic should ever be without.

Cable Zip Ties Keep Stock and Tools Organized

by Amy

There are a lot of moving parts in a warehouse. You have heavy duty machines that transport, organize and get inventory ready for shipping. In addition to the machines, there may be a large number of employees who are responsible for keeping track of everything. The use of cable zip ties can make everyone’s life a little easier.

Color Code Inventory for Easy Retrieval

For the most part, employees have to choose between boxes that look similar but carry a variety of different products inside of them. Instead of fumbling around with a lot of boxes and wasting time, a series of colored zip ties can make it easy for an employee to choose what he or she needs to get the job done. In a warehouse, wasted time is almost always wasted money.

Tie Down Equipment to Avoid Unauthorized Use or Theft

Scan guns that are used to log in an order or indicate when an order left can cost thousands of dollars. If the gun is stolen, it could render the entire warehouse useless. In the event that only certain people are allowed to use a piece of equipment, it would make sense to tie it down with a cable tie to ensure that no one can just pick it up and start using it.

Provide Stability for Larger Equipment inside the Warehouse

If your warehouse has large copiers, printers or other scanning equipment, it would be a good idea to use a clear or black zip tie to keep it in place. If something were to fall or tip over, it could cause thousands of dollars worth of damage as well as potentially hurt an employee. The good news is that an industrial strength zip tie can hold several hundred pounds in place without issue.

Cable zip ties provide a lot of value because they can be used in many different scenarios. If you need to keep something in place or provide extra security for a sensitive item, a zip tie is the way to go.

Using Cable Zip Ties to Make Other Products

by Amy

Cable zip ties are great products that can be used in a variety of different ways. You can use them to bundle computer wires, keep your tools organized or hold your satellite dish on your roof. However, what are you supposed to do with them once they have outlived their original purpose?

You Can Reopen a Cable Zip Tie

Releasable Zip Ties: Did you know that you can reopen a cable zip tie? All you need to do is run a needle through the square lock to release the tie. Once the tie is open, you can then use the item for whatever you need. It can be used in the garden to keep animals from digging out your flowers or to add a color code to your garden. It is the perfect way for home gardeners to keep their plants safe.

What Happens If You Already Snipped The Tie?

If you have already snipped the cable tie, there is nothing that you can do to make it work like it used to. Fortunately, you can still use a black tie or a tie of any other color to create a jewelry making or weaved masterpiece. You can create small baskets for Easter or perhaps use them to decorate a collar for your pets.

Plastic from a Cable Zip Tie Is Recyclable

If you don’t have a use for old cable zip tie around the home, you can send them off to be recycled. While you may not want to put them in the recycling bin as they are, you can take them to a local recycling center or place them in a plastic bag before putting them in the recycling bin. They old ties will then be sent to a plant where they will be melted down for use in other products.

When you are done with a cable zip tie, do not just throw it out. You should look to open it to use on another product, use it to create something artistic or send it to a local recycling plant. Instead of having an indefinite shelf life in the ground, it can be reused quickly and cheaply.

Tie Wraps for Newspaper bundles – Nylon Tie Wraps Add Strength to Paper Products

by Amy

The Sunday newspaper has a lot of sections to it. It can contain as many as 30 pages of text as well as coupons and other inserts. If you are sending a lot of papers to a grocery store or any other customer, you need to keep each bundle together. Cable zip ties are exactly the product to help you out.

Zip Ties Are Strong and Reliable

A bundle of newspapers can easily weigh 100 pounds or more. Therefore, you need a cable zip tie that is strong enough to keep the papers together while they are being transported to the store or while they are being delivered to the home of a subscriber.

Putting Papers Together Is Much Easier

A grocery store may receive its papers in several different parts. For example, the comic section may come in a separate bundle from the coupons or the local section of a national paper. With tie wraps, you know that each bundle is going to stay in its place until delivery. When the store clerk goes to assemble the papers, he or she knows that each paper can be assembled in a uniform manner.

Zip Ties Can Handle the Elements

Good tie wraps can handle the elements with ease. Whether it is cold or hot outside, the papers are going to stay together because the cable zip tie holding it together will not fray or crack. Whether it is going to a store or going to sit outside the home of a subscriber, it will retain its strength regardless of where it goes.

If you deal with newspapers, you will need a strong zip tie to bundle them with. It is much easier to keep the newspapers organized without anything falling out if you use a nylon tie to keep each section together. For retailers, sales can be lost if certain parts of the paper are missing. Therefore, reduce the risk of that happening with a zip tie that can handle whatever is thrown at it.

Uses For High Temperature Tie Wraps

by Amy

Tie wraps are used in a variety of applications. Particularly in the automotive and electrical industries, there are going to be times when you need to use a tie wrap in an area that is extremely hot. If you don’t purchase a wrap that can handle the high temperatures, you will end up with melted plastic. This can result in even more problems than not having a wrap on the wires or other items you used them on.

If you look under the hood of your car, you will notice there are a lot of different tubes and hoses. Mechanics will commonly use high temperature tie wraps to help keep certain hoses together. In the event that they come apart, it can result in problems under the hood.

As your engine continues to heat up, it’s going to produce a variety of hot gases under the hood. This means that everything under the hood is going to be exposed to the heat. The solution is for a mechanic to use high temperature tie wraps to prevent disturbing the wraps. If they cannot handle the heat, then they will be inefficient.

Mechanics are going to use quality products because most of them offer a warranty on parts and labor. Without using a quality tie, they are going to end up with customers back into their garage wondering what happened.

The same can be said about electricians and solar panel technicians. They offer warranties on both products and workmanship. If they stop using quality materials, their phone is going to ring off the hook. Cables and wires will be bundled together frequently to ensure that it provides a neat appearance, make it easier to connect to mainframes, and to be able to label everything appropriately.

On top of the house where solar panels are seated, it’s very likely to get hot quickly. It wouldn’t be uncommon for a tie to be exposed to 110 degrees or even hotter due to the metal. As a result, high temperature tie wraps are used.

Where HVAC systems and electrical panels are concerned, the same high temperature scenarios exist. No one wants to deal with a wrap that has melted because it can leave wires exposed and cause malfunctions within the system.

Understanding the Heat Resistance Characteristics of Nylon Zip Ties.

by Amy

If you are using zip ties for a project, then you owe it to yourself to understand the characteristics of the different polyamides that give the zip ties their resistance to heat. Ever since they were introduced commercially in 1938, nylon zip ties were hailed for their incredible balance of properties, combining flexibility with stiffness, a low coefficient of friction and resistance to abrasion.

Below are some specific applications for zip ties as relates to their heat resistance.

General-Purpose Nylon 6/6

This is the grade that is most often used for general purpose zip ties. General-purpose nylon has a working temperature range of 40°F to 185°F. The temperature that is suitable for most continuous applications maxes out at 150°F. General-purpose nylon meets UL 94V – 2 flammability ratings.

In order to get the best performance, you should be sure to use nylon 6/6 zip ties. This is the type of zip tie with both physical and chemical certification for use when in the presence of oxidizing agents, strong acids and even phenols. This type of nylon is resistant to chemicals and most fuels as well as lubricants.

Heat Stabilized Nylon 6/6

Heat stabilized nylon is a zip tie that is suitable for applications that will involve continuous exposure to temperatures higher than 150°F. Most heat stabilized nylon is suitable for temperatures up to 250°F. This means that heat stabilized nylon meets UL standards for all electrical applications.

UV Stabilized Nylon 6/6

UV stabilized nylon is best used when applications will be exposed to outdoor elements on a continuous basis. Aside from being heat resistant, UV stabilized nylon zip ties is also weather resistant with the ability to endure UV light.
